ABSTRACT
Toby Lowe will outline a narrative-based definition of community which provides a way to understand the many different manifestations of the concept of community – both geographical and virtual. He will explore the relationship between community and identity and examine the way in which culture functions as the repository of shared stories of particular communities. He will also explore the potential of making art to empower people to take control of how communities are constructed, and the shared stories that bind people.
